Constellations, Clusters, Networks

Wow, I’m terrible at updating this news page!
But for reference: Last week I presented at Constellations, Clusters, Networks, the Art History Department’s graduate conference at Concordia University. My paper was called “Cartographies of TIme” and it was about how GPS and locative media art might present a alternative view of cartography as trajectories and networks rather than space and place, referencing Doreen Massey’s critique of Michel de Certeau’s reliance on binary constructions of space and place. It was an excellent conference (Much Thanks to the organizers!) with a great keynote by McKenzie Wark.
Next up:
Performing the Accidental Archive is the fourth annual York University Theatre & Performance Studies graduate student symposium.
This event is scheduled for 17th and 18th of April 2015
This symposium is a call to explore the places, practices, objects, and events that are archival despite themselves and that point towards the unintended and incidental remains of our everyday lives and actions.
I’ll be presenting a paper on “City Transit as Archival Practice and Performance.”
That’s all for now. Over and Out!

Thinking | Feeling 2014

I gave an artist talk at York University and an academic paper at Ryerson as part of this conference, plus my website work “DETOURS” is featured as part of the Cross Sections exhibit (still up for another week). Kudos to the organizers! The night of films, videos, and performances was tons of fun.

26th International Cartographic Conference in Dresden

Poster for Grant Gee’s film Patience (After Sebald)
Off to Dresden today! I will be giving a paper called “Mapping Out Patience: Cartography, Cinema, and W.G. Sebald” (about Grant Gee’s essay film on Sebald and the Rings of Saturn). I’ll also be co-presenting a video on cartography and narrative, made in collaboration with a team of artists from Zurich (a continuation of the workshop held there last summer). Woot!
